Alright, so I'm at an impasse. Forgive the long post, but I don't know where to turn.
I'm in the process of setting up a home studio and I seemingly have everything I need to do so: i5 PC with Ableton live, decent speakers, Tascam US-200 audio interface, Monoprice 600800 microphone, and plenty of sound proofing materials so my neighbors don't murk me.
My goal with this set up is to record my own music, bring others in to collaborate, and record some voiceovers. Nothing too crazy.
My issue that is causing me a massive headache is the fact that there is a tiny electrical hum that is persistent through all of this. Sounds kind of like this (forgive the terrible quality, it was the only vid I could find that sounds like what I'm hearing)
At first I thought it was the XLR cable, but after purchasing a new one, that is not the case. Then I thought I was grouping too much electricity into my computer outlet, but even after I unplugged everything, the hum persisted. I even went out of my way to pick up a Furman Power conditioner to equalize the electricity that is coming from my outlet. This did not work.
My hope is that I am overlooking one very simple fact about this process that is causing the hum to continue. I was hoping that someone might be able to shed some light as to why this is continuing. Has anyone else ever experienced this? How did you overcome it? Any product or setup recommendations?
I'm eager to start recording and (as far as my skills go) this electric hum can't be EQ'd out. I would be very appreciative of any feedback or any help I might be able to get.
TL;DR- There's an electric hum in my recordings and it's pissing me off that I can't figure out where it's coming from.
