Hello all,
I am just starting out on EDM production (mainly DnB, dubstep, and riddim), and someone suggested me to learn an instrument first as it will serve me better in the long run through my creative process. Since most DAWs work on a keyboard layout, that is what I decided to learn and I need a decent keyboard to get my hands on.
I'm considering a 61-key keyboard for this and my budget is around $200. Thus far I have shortlisted the following 2 keyboards:-
1- Yamaha PSR-E373
2- Casio CTX-700
I know these two are often pitted against each other for entry-level keyboards, but I am mentioning my doubts regarding these and if you could clear any of them it would be amazing!
My requirements: Since I won't be getting into live playing, the 'piano' sounds or even a super-awesome sound quality isn't something I'm looking into much at the moment(it should be workable though). Over going through both of these products and watching all the reviews that I could, I found out the following key differences that might impact my decision. However, it's not very clear to me that which of these should I pick- and I would like your opinion on the same.
Difference-1: 6- track midi recorder (Casio) vs 2-track(Yamaha)
How will this impact me? I will mostly be buying a small portable MIDI keyboard too, but it'll be good to have MIDI capabilities in my 61-key keyboard too. Can you explain what difference does the tracks make here?
Difference-2: USB TO HOST 'MIDI + audio' (Yamaha) vs only MIDI(Casio)
I am not quite sure what does this means.
Difference-3: Super Articulation voices(Yamaha) vs Pitch Bender(Casio- upgraded model)
I know that Casio CTX-700 does not have a pitch bender either, but its successor model(CT-X870IN), which is available where I live, does. It has all the same features as CTX-700, just with added pitch bender, and sells for around the same price as Yamaha PSR-373. On the other hand, the Yamaha model has super articulation voices. I like both of these features, but do you think one of these will be of more use to me, given my future goal to produce EDM tracks.
Lastly, is there any other factor according to you, that I should consider while picking one of these 2 keyboards?
Bonus quesh: What are your thoughts on the approach of me learning a keyboard first, before jumping to EDM production.
Thank you for giving your time. Really appreciate it :)
