As part of my ongoing effort to understand* music, I am trying to grasp the concept of 'beat'.
Recently remembered something my eldest brother did. He's one of those people with an intuitive grasp of music. I'll replicate it in a hopefully clear manner.
'Oh, the weather outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
And as long as we've no place to go (two three four)
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!'
I am suspecting that the 'two three four' is related to the beat. Can anyone offer more specific information on how this could illuminate the subject?
*Keep in mind that I do not play an instrument. My interest is purely intellectual.
