Hello!
Recently, after I helped the marching band at my high school with a performance (I set up props), I've gained a bit of an interest in music, and I want to try learning an instrument. However, my knowledge on music is next to null, and I have no idea on where to start. Because of this, I have a few questions, and will note a bit of a background:
• Background: I'm currently in highschool, and I'm thinking about joining marching band next year. Even though I plan on doing this, I want to go about and try working on music and learning a bit about it beforehand. As for instruments, I'm mainly interested in euphonium and piano, though euphonium or front ensemble/pit is what I'm considering doing if I do enter marching band. As for budget, I currently don't have one, though maybe in the few hundred range.
As for the questions:
• I want to try experimenting a bit with instruments and music before I go out and buy an instrument; are there any cheaper alternatives or advice you folks can lend?
• What are some general things I need to know before or when starting to learn an instrument? Whether it be knowing how to read sheet music, how to tune, etc.
• If I don't want to get lessons, would going about videos be a good way to start off?
Thank you in advance for reading my wall of text!
