So I started taking music lessons and so far it is all about reading and playing basic songs.
I found that when I'm reading a song I can't process reading a rhythm and a melody at the same time so what ends up happening is that once I hit a bar with a relatively complex rhythm (which at my level isn't a lot) I keep repeating the bar very slowly until I memorise the melody, then I read the rhythm while looking at the metronome as a guide. Which I guess isn't necessarily a bad thing but I feel like I'm not making any progress on being able to read a rhythm in conjunction with a melody.
So I guess my question is have any of you encountered a similar issue and if so how did you overcome it?
Thanks in advance.
