First off, I know NOTHING about music...so here goes...when they say canon in C, or the more common canon in d, what does that mean ? Does that mean it is the note that the song starts at ?

Like every song have a BUNCH of notes throughout the song, how do people "decide" that this song is played in C,D,E,F,G,A or B ?
What about all the other notes that was played throughout the song ? Are they not important ? The song wouldn't even exist if it is not for all the other notes...
