So,
Long story short, I'm recovering from some pretty debilitating mental illnesses right now, and I'm lucky enough to be home with people that love me and aren't forcing me to do anything.
And they're asking me what I want for Christmas, but all I can really come up with is, like, socks. (There's nothing like a good pair of socks.)
My brother is bringing my piano home in about a week, and my piano (digital Yamaha) is basically my baby. Even if I don't perform, it is one of the few things through all the years that has stayed in my heart. And I still love playing it.
I can read music and I'm open to lots of different songs, but I tend to enjoy melancholic songs more than major keys.
I like instruments that can operate on messing around with chords and don't need much else.
I have a guitar, but I don't quite have a passion for it like my piano.
Anyway!
I said all that to ask this: I'd like to add a new instrument to my arsenal that isn't too terribly stressful and might be similar to a piano (though it doesn't have to have a keyboard or be percussive). I'm thinking maybe something string related or even woodwind (but I'm not too keen on typical band instruments. I don't want to play the clarinet ever again). I am open to almost any genre, so even a banjo or some folk instrument no one's ever heard of would be nice. Maybe even something tamer like a violin?
I feel like this has become a very disjointed post (maybe all the brain stuff going on with me right now) but I'd really appreciate any suggestions anyone has for a nice, rewarding instrument that I can love as much as my piano.
Bonus Detail: I'm literally broke. And so is most of my family, except for my brother (who is maybe more musically inclined than me. He bought himself a synth for the heck of it and has plans for like an ACTUAL piano in the near future), who is more well off in terms of money, but I don't want to be greedy. I don't want anyone to break the bank for me. I just think it'd be nice if I could start bonding with them over music again and maybe they'd feel better too because it's something familiar. I know a good instrument isn't exactly cheap, but if I just had an idea maybe I could figure something out.
Yep! Thanks in advance!
