Apologies in advance if this comes off as weird or stupid. I'm a 21 yo guy who wants to learn and do music, and I've recently decided to first work on improving my rhythm and percussion, but I don't have access to a drum kit, cajon or any other instrument of such sort, and chances are I'm not going to have the access anytime soon either (Mainly because I don't have the money to buy any instruments right now, and the neighbors aren't very cooperative even if I had a kit). So, I thought I should ask; For the time being, how can I improve my rhythm and percussion without these instruments? Like, how can I imagine or create complex, innovative beats and patterns and then be able to play them if I wanted to? Because I've tried my hands at a friend's cajon, and I can play some basic beats, no problem, but that's where it stops. When I try to imagine new stuff, nothing comes out, and even if something miraculously does, I can never play the thing accurately or while maintaining the metronome. How can I work on this? And if not this, how can I at least work towards gaining dexterity and independence in my limbs till I get a real drum kit so that I don't have to work on those basics then? Air drumming maybe? Any exercises that I could do? Any resources I could check out online? Anything would be helpful because I love music and I'd love to absorb any kind of information. Thanks!
