Dear /r/learnmusic,
I have been itching to start learning a musical instrument for a while now and although I have started to get into piano, I am now on a three-week vacation from school (within which were the only pianos I had access to) and wanted to potentially learn to play another instrument that I can get cheaply to develop skills and pass the time. I am therefore split between the recorder and the ukelele as I could get either one, leaning towards the recorder since I want to play melodies rather than repeated chords to accompany singing (correct me if most guitar music isn't like this). To what extent, however, will recorder skills, such as knowing how to produce certain notes with the fingerholes, carry over to real instruments such as the flute or saxophone? Would it be more useful to learn the ukelele?
Thank you,
Passengerpigeon.
