More explanation of the concept:
Think FM synthesis or LFOs that crank up into the audible range. I'm looking to develop a short series of plucky sounds - midi, samples, doesn't matter, I'm not married to my current source material - which will increase in frequency until the frequency they're repeating at hits audible range. But it's important that the pitch remains the same, otherwise the pitch moves outside our audible range before it gets fun.
What I'm trying to do with it:
I'm looking to do this to develop what might be the first of its kind: An EDM riser comprised of a polyrhythm that increases in speed until the frequency of the pattern's repetition enters audible range. Kind of like FM or, more accurately, >20hz LFOs.
I'm doing this because when a polyrhythm achieves this, it will start to be perceived as a musical interval. For example, a 4 on the floor overtop of a 5:4 rhythm (5 notes evenly spaced in the same space of the aforementioned four) would then produce a major third interval once the period of the rhythm reaches >20hz. This is because the 4:4 acts as a root and the 5:4 acts as a major third up (see this and the other ratios here).
I tie this back into the idea of using this theory as an EDM riser by planning on beginning with one rhythm, introducing another after some time, and eventually possibly a third so I've got a layered polyrhythm going, then speeding it all up until they form a tense chord in the song's key, until finally dropping into a resolve during the hook. Of course this would be layered with other elements as well.
What I've tried so far:
I've tried automating FL Studio's tempo, but I actually found something interesting. The tempo control will allow tempos up to 522, but if you automate the tempo the higher end of the automation clip is more like 200. That's super weird to me. Either way, still too slow.
I've also tried loading a pluck like sample into serum's noise oscillator with one shot mode disabled, and automating the global pitch, but this increases the pitch of the sample, not just the repetition cycle of it.
I use FL Studio and am looking for help to achieve this effect. Any information is appreciated.
