I've been wanting a bass dizi for ages. I finally bought one (G with 7 finger holes) and it will arrive in a month or so. Meanwhile, I've been relearning my western Flute that I haven't touched in 15 years using beginner method books to help prepare my breathing stamina, embouchure, note reading, etc for the dizi. Progress is better than I hoped just because of muscle memory, really.
Anyways...
Most of the dizi learning material online and in books I can't preview seem to be for the smaller higher pitched ones like the one keyed in d. After learning that one, they teach you how to modify the scores (the Chinese notation like how to change 1=D to 1=G) and play the other 6 dizi. They also claim that most dizi players have all 7 dizi and just pull out what they need for each score.
I'm not interested in learning all of the other dizi. Just the one I bought. Does anyone have any tips about this issue or tips in general? Should I go ahead and buy one of those cheap $15 D keyed dizis to learn on? Also any easy eastern sheet music available? Don't really want to practice hot cross buns on a dizi.
