I've been listening to a lot of trance/uplifting trance and DnB lately and I've noticed that one thing that makes good tracks in those genre (or any genre) shine are the little FX risers, falls, impacts, or little blips and beeps that really keeps the tension high and keeps the song flowing.
Whenever I try to synthesize this kind of "ear candy" it almost always feels out of place and jarring... do you guys just mostly use samples or do I just have to keep at it in synthesis? Right now I'm mostly leaning towards not getting stuck trying to get it to sound perfect in a synthesizer and using samples as a place-holder to make sure I don't get stifled creatively.
What kind of process do you guys use to add this important bit of "shinyness" or interest to the track?
