Hey producers !
I'm curious to know what are the pros and cons of taking the indie route and releasing your music yourself vs releasing your music through a label.
I have zero experience with labels and neither have I released any music myself. I've got to a point where I think I can consider releasing my stuff and that's why I would like to know your opinions regarding this topic.
As far as my opinion is considered, I don't think a label really does anything to help an artist's release which he himself can't do unless there's a major label involved. It's easier than ever before to distribute your own music to different platforms with the advent of distribution services such as Distrokid, CDBaby, etc. The major role of a label is to market the music and get the music heard but, I don't think small labels are really putting in the efforts to do that. So, I don't see any reason to compromise the rights and royalties for your song in return for nothing.
One thing which I've deliberately left in this post is the monetary aspect of releasing music since I hear different things from different producers. So, any insight into this topic is also appreciable.
But, as I've said, I don't have any experience in releasing music and these are just my assumptions about the industry and I might be wrong. It will be really helpful if people experienced enough provide us their opinion on this matter.
