Hi everyone, so I've been making beats on and off for more than a decade now without formal music education. To create melodies, I just play on my keyboard and record stuff that sounds good to my ear. Most of my beats are well received so I must be doing something right. The thing though is that I feel like I am missing something here. I feel like there is a lot of composition techniques that I don't know that can help me lay out my ideas faster and make me compose better quality music. So the obvious answer to fix my situation is music education. The problem though is I tried several times to learn how to read and write but I just can't get my head around it. I always give up. I find it very hard. Now my question is: Is there a way to learn all the composition techniques (melodies, harmony, chord progs, etc) without going through a formal music education? Like a shortcut or something? Or maybe you know a book that will make me learn this stuff in a non-technical way? I want to improve but starting from scratch is so hard! Any help would be appreciated. Cheers
