I was trying to come up with some synth for a rhythm track that I programmed ages ago, and while scrolling through my Monologue’s presets for inspiration I came across one that fit perfectly. Not just the sound of the preset, but the example melody that was programmed in to the patch as well. I felt like it was tailor made for my track. It was uncanny.
As a result I went about editing the patch, hoping that I could come up with a similar sound and melody, but one that was just different enough. Well...it pretty much sounds exactly the same, and now the thing is completely lodged in my head. I can’t hear the track any other way, and I’m trying desperately to come up with my own patch.
Now, obviously using the default melody in a preset would be pretty derision worthy, but the whole thing has got me wondering just how lame it is to use preset sound. Especially one of the more distinctive ones in something ubiquitous like the Monologue. Curious to hear other people’s opinions on this as well as their methods for synthesizing their way in to something more unique.
