My 7 year old son wants to learn to play the guitar. He has been going over to a friends house, and his friends dad plays and has let him try it out and has taught him a few chords, and he is absolutely enthralled in the idea of learning to play.
My problem is that I a musically challenged. I know nothing about music, I have never picked up an instrument, and I don't even know where to start as far as him learning, not to mention which instrument to buy for him.
One of my friends recommended him getting started with the piano to learn more about the theory of music and to get a better basic understanding of notes. I'm hesitant about that because he is so enthusiastic about learning the guitar, and I don't want to force him to play something he isn't interested in and possibly killing his interest in music. So I guess my question is, where do I start? Do I find a local piano teacher and get hims started on the piano? Should I just start him out on the guitar? Would it be too overwhelming for him to take lessons on both? Sorry if this is a bit of a ramble, but I really want to nurture my sons interests and make sure that he gets the opportunities that I never did, so I have tons of questions. Any resources other parents have or advice would be greatly appreciated!
