I produce progressive house as a hobby, but I want to take my music production towards a more serious path. I hear a lot of people tell me that you will only learn through "experience" and "everything you need to know is on YouTube". I get that experience and trial-and-error are an important part of the learning process, but I really think a good formal eduction on the topic would help round out, and possibly, accelerate my learning.
I'm curious to know a number of things:
- Is this even a recommended approach? (bear in mind all I've relied on so far is trial-and-error and a few online tutorial courses online).
- Is online recommended or in studio? What are the pros and cons of both approaches?
- Do I need to prove anything in terms of demos/submissions for any of these schools?
- What school would you recommend? (keep in mind that distance is not the end-all-be-all, but I would prefer somewhere close to Toronto, Canada).
Thanks very much.
