Hey guys! I have been dabbling with EDM production for several years but up until recently, was more or less layering tracks on top of each other without being cognizant of their relationship in terms of frequency, loudness, and stereo width, etc. I'd like to believe I've made some progress in this, however there is one aspect my mix that I continually struggle with and that is stereo compatibility. From my understanding, in general it's best to have completely mono for your lows and then increase stereo width as you move up the spectrum. I usually use Ozone 8 for mastering, so this is usually done using the Stereo Imager as well as in my Post-EQ. Lows are relatively straight forward. However I am struggling with how to deal with my mid-high frequencies. Often my L/R correlation meter in ozone is jumping all around and dipping into -1 range for my mids. This could obviously be fixed by decreasing the stereo width of this band towards mono, however it causes that band to lose a lot of it's flavor.
So I am wondering what measure I can take to clean up phase cancellation in my mid-high frequencies prior to mastering so that I don't have to be 'compensating' for tons of incompatibility during mastering. I'd also like to point out that I could just be completely wrong in my understanding of this topic, so any advice or clarification would be great.
TL;DR I am having trouble with phase cancellation in my mix and am wondering what I can do to clean this up more precisely before I master.
