For the last couple of years I’ve dabbled in edm music production, but within the last six months I’ve really decided to focus on cranking out some music, unfortunately, I’m hitting a wall.
As a musician that has written and played music for many years (classically trained), I’m having trouble writing for edm genres. There are genres and tracks that I love to listen to, but when I try to write most of what comes out is too complex, too melodic etc.
I had this idea that I could blend these to make my own style, but maybe I don’t have a good enough understanding of the production side of things to really know how to blend them.
Has anyone had this struggle? Are any of you trying to adapt your fairly developed musical skills on this medium? How can I take my background and mold it into a sound that is both unique yet recognizable as dance music?
