Right now I have an Acer flatscreen monitor (19 inches I think, max at 1600 x 900 res) and although it's done me well it is pretty old, not sure exactly but definitely over 7-8 years old. Having used it for so long I've gotten used to the quality and size of it although I know that in the tech world, 8 years might as well be 80 years in regard to the progression of technology.
So anyway I'm on this old monitor and my girlfriend is getting me a new monitor for Christmas. Needless to say, being both a tech geek and an aspiring music producer, I'm pretty damn excited. My question is, what are some monitors I should look at.
Today I saw a 32-inch curved monitor (I think Samsung) for $250 and pretty much fell in love. Personally, at this point in time it's still kind of hard for me to tell if curved displays will end up just being a shitty gimmick like 3D TVs and monitors, or if they're here to stay.
I"m posting this here because it relates to this sub in a couple ways.

Jumping from 19 inches to 32 inches, how much do you think it will make my workflow more efficient? One of the most annoying problems I have is when I'm producing in FL I can't resize the VSTs so for the most part I'm stuck with only being able to have focus on one at a time. I know I can detach them but then they get in the way of everything in my toolbar and browser.

Would it be viable to make my current monitor a secondary one? I've never done that so I don't know what expenses go in to that (special cords and stuff like that)
Btw, I understand that 32 inch monitors might be a little too big for anything other than gaming, I can pretty much only afford one really shiny new thing once every year or two, so I take full advantage to get the best I can when I have the chance.
