Whenever I make a snare drum with more than 1 different sample, I almost always put a light glue-style compressor immediately after the samples, to kind glue/smooth everything together. I usually do this before EQ, saturation or the main compressor, because I like cleaning stuff up firsthand.
Is this a good technique, or would you consider it redundant or too much compression. If you do work like this, what settings would you recommend that won't kill the sound before getting compressed again later?
