Alright, hold your horses. Before you blatantly write "no" in the comments here me out. tl;dr version: I just finished cegep (pre-uni). I was thinking of taking a year off before going to university and dedicate it to music production. My parents aren't too keen on the idea, but it's safe to say that I am fine financially.
Why would I do this? Because I take school very seriously and I also hate it. The combination of the two means that I always feel like I should be studying while I am producing and it drains my passion. On top of that, the program I am going in has nothing to do with music.
How long have I been producing? I've properly produced 3 songs in total that suck (but that's the point) in the past 2 years.
What's my goal? Being proud of a song I made.
Do I hope to make it a career? I am not expecting to be Garrix by the end of the year. If I gain a certain revenue that's a bonus.
I would treat it as a job, 5 days a week, 8-10 hour days just like I am doing now for the summer.
I tend to think the responsible decision is going to university and spreading it out over an additional year to give myself time to produce, but my drive will be drained very quickly...
I’ve thought about it for about a year now. I have until the first of June to decide (university accepting deadline) What do you guys think? I read the rules but couldn't really tell if this post was appropriate. From what I gather, many people from this sub have been down the same road. I am curious to see how it turned out.
