"my song has a lot of unnecessary low end mudiness. Better just...Cut EVERYTHING OFF with a low pass/high pass". Don't listen to EDM producers who say shit like this. There's no reason to low cut/high pass unless there's a huge gap in the spectrum literally missing but even then cutting doesn't do anything at all. If you save the frequencies you'll hear a noticeably different warmth in tons of stuff such as synths etc. When you cut off all lows sometimes you'll even hear a shill at the high or more noticeable rumbles in the lows. You probably wouldn't hear that if you didn't cut off the lows/highs. Frequencies removed the sound now tries to compensate for what's been removed maybe causing problems elsewhere. Of course in instances of extreme mixing ( metal music ) you do need to cut off due to having so much going on, but in electronic music mostly cutting so harsh is completely unnecessary. You use techniques like sidechaining, to fight the muddy low end and high end conflicts. And there's not much going on so cutting so harshly makes almost no sense whatsoever. Another note: Avoid doing a low shelf cut off at every track, do it on the master instead. Then do an A / B comparison. There will be a pretty big wow factor at even 20 hz full cut compared if you cut off every single track. I found that I keep some warmth of sounds that are supposed to have those lows and don't mix so harsh.
