The best way I can describe it. I've noticed a lot of other producers do this as well. They sort of have a slap to them and sound different for the first split second that they hit. It is especially noticeable when the notes are played without a kick on top.
I've been trying to figure this out for a while to no avail. My first thought was a compressor with a slow attack time, along with a sidechain compressor but I just can't seem to come close to achieving this sound. Could anyone help me out with this? Would be much appreciated.
