I don't want to be DIRECTLY influenced by other artists... especially while I'm in the middle of a track. I'm not saying that I am not influenced by a culmination of artists and genres, which I am, I just don't want a certain song to make me say, "oh, I should change my weird-ass song and make it into a big-room house track so that I get more plays/views." Instead of sticking to my original idea.
It's really easy to start producing something, and be demoralized by the realization that not many people might instantly like it due to the fact that it's different. it's important to realize that you are producing music because you love to do it.
This is something I have noticed of myself due to the fact that I simply don't enjoy making the more mainstream stuff. Not saying that it's bad, I just don't want my reasons-for-producing to change to something that I wouldn't like to do otherwise.
Also, I can't help but compare my projects with other amateur producers and can sometimes end up in me not being satisfied with my production, and it used to make me stop my project all together.
Thanks to keeping to myself, I have found it a lot easier to make my stuff. My mind is more free to wander and try new things that I would have probably not tried before.
Don't get me wrong, I love to listen to other fellow music producers; I do it very often, but I like to stay away from other artists' work while I am working on my own.
I don't know, but I might be the only one that thinks this way lol.
How about you guys?
