I've been basically allergic to music all my life, but I want to start getting over my aversion and learn something new.
I stayed somewhere with a piano for a few days and tried learning some basics, I really enjoyed it. Unfortunately I can't access a piano right now (or even buy a cheap keyboard) and won't be able to for a few months.
In the meantime I thought it might be good to build some basics. I've never played an instrument, I sing like a wounded cat (so I'm told), and I'm nearly tone-deaf. So there's a lot of room to improve! I know some music theory, like I understand what a harmonic is and how scales and keys work and I know all the basic terms for reading sheet music. I'm also bad at listening to music somehow, I only ever pay attention to lyrics and I try not to listen to any instruments invented before 1950.
Any advice on where to start? Part of me thinks I'll need to improve my ear first, but maybe it's best to do that while playing instead of just doing Perfect-Pitch drills. The only instrument I have access to for the moment is my voice, but I'd be willing to buy like a recorder online if that would be helpful. What advice would you give an absolute beginner? I hate all music, but I want to give this a shot.
