When writing melodies or trying to fix old ones, mostly the first response (also mine) is to change the pitches and to shuffle some rhythms here and there.
But in many cases the pitches might actually not be the problem. By switching the relationship between the underlying harmonic phrases and melodic phrases, you can make an old melody sound fresh and new.
In this short and straight forward video I show two ways that you can use this technique. I hope this will spark some new melodic ideas!
