Hi, when I was a teen, I had wanted to learn the guitar. My approach had been to borrow a guitar and learn to play tabs. But I think that was the wrong approach. I think perhaps the guitar, as my entry instrument, was a bit too difficult for my fingers to reason about. I want to make music today. I want to sing the songs that I will write and express myself musically.
What is the recommended step-by-step approach? What are the phases of learning music the right way? Do I learn to read music first? Do I learn to listen for special patterns of music? Is guitar indeed a difficult instrument to start?
How would you deconstruct the journey of learning music and what are the tips you have?
Thank you for reading and I appreciate any input you may have.
