CONTEXT:
I’ve been practicing the piano since February 2018, parallel with Level 3 Music Theory classes, with some ups and downs along the way, but I’ve come to learn and play pieces from John Thompson’s “Modern Course for Piano - Level 1” (which my teacher ditched from the classes mid-way since I started improving tremendously with more complicated pieces outside the book) and I’ve learned and played pieces ranging from Bach’s “Prelude in C Major” from Czerny’s pieces. I’m currently learning more Czerny’s studies, as well Scarlatti’s Minuet, Schumman’s Op. 68 (the “Melodie”, for now) and I also have the Invention no. 4 in D Minor of Bach, although it’s on hold due to being quite challenging for my level and for my quite busy schedule.
I currently aspire to be a professional composer for my career, and I’ve always fond the piano, and I think that learning it “academically” will help me get around it and its technicalities (especially regarding the fact that I will be able to “play” virtual instruments through a MIDI piano keyboard).
But, outside of my academic education, I also feel the urge to learn pieces from composers I like, from Ludovico Einaudi, Hans Zimmer, Michael Nyman, Ramin Djawadi, etc, and I’ve even tried to get away from learning their pieces by ear and try to focus on learning through sheet music.
But, I’m afraid that searching and engaging those arrangements may be a great leap to the current piano knowledge I have and that maybe it will slow down or create some sort of entropy with my academic development.
