I have been teaching myself piano, and have found that the metronome helps me a lot. However in my (John Thompsons Modern Course for the Piano) book it says M.M. and has a quarter note= 60 and then has a dash to a half-note= 72
Like this: M.M. Qtr= 60 - Hlf= 72 (sorry cant write the symbols)
Can someone help me understand what this means? Do I set my metronome to 60 BPM with the quarter note as the beat? This makes the song sooo slow. It is a first grade book, but still.
Also how is a quarter note 60 and a half note 72? The math doesnt work in my head but Im sure Im missing something. Thanks for any help?
Edit: it is 4/4 time
