Hey everyone.
I've very recently gotten into making electronic music. Before this I have a background in guitar as well as something called butterfly piano. I have adequate music theory knowledge.
My current plan is to get FL Studio and then choose one song to copy as perfectly as possible, in order to familiarize myself with the software as well as to give myself a framework to learn any intricacies of EDM making that copying the song ("manually") will force me to come across. I'm also going to write down my learning process on another website in order for me to absorb the knowledge as quickly as possible and to show others in the future, if I stick to it.
Is this a good plan? Any particular risks learning the piece of software and EDM production that way?
I was thinking that one of the potential risks might be that I'll only get good at copying music and not making it, but I reason that risk is low since I have written music before (just not EDM) and it seems that the complexity of the software is currently the biggest hurdle.
Any other piece of advice for a newbie just getting started? What are the common pitfalls when you first started making EDM? Any must-learn or must-watch resources that you would recommend? Hope I'm not asking too many questions at once.
