I grew up together with the big house wave with the uprising of names like Calvin Harris, Avicii, Swedish House Mafia, Alesso etc. I was 16 and I kept working with EDM 5 days a week (or more) and also took a year off school and then went to "music production school" .
However in the school my vibe died cause I was forced to make music for the masses and long story short I left music behind to pursuit a carrier to become a lawyer.
Recently I've felt so empty. School is going great and life is "great" (I guess). However I feel empty inside. I feel like when I succeed in my carrier, it will still mostly be for money and "getting a good life".
I remembered that what finally put an end to my hopes with music was the fact that I meet so many people in the studio that were probably x2 as talented as me and they were still working half time at the local grocery store to support themselves while producing and writing songs. I couldn't see myself having that future.
TLDR: Is "making it" in the EDM scene still impossible? When I grew up, EVERYONE wanted to produce and be a DJ. You were lucky just to play for free at the local clubs cause there was so much competition. Now the EDM scene has calmed down a lot it seems, so I wonder if it's still 1 in a 10000000 that you would get discovered?
Or do people just make music 4 fun? I released some tracks when I was growing up on different labels but that was pretty much it. People always tell me that I can "make music when I'm done with school" etc but my childhood dream will forever be lost I guess.
(But then u think about it, making it doesn't seem to be a water-proof way to get happy, just look at Avicii ....)
