So everyone knows about the loudness war and heavy use of compression to get that radio loudness and so on, but is music in general also getting thinner? I keep noticing very popular tracks that has so little information going on in the lower frequencies, even tho they are mixed and mastered by experienced people. One example I just came across is House Work by Jax Jones: https://youtu.be/ULC2C3VjO-o?t=2m22s It sounds alright as a whole, and it's a relatively popular track, but I can't be the only one noticing how thin it sounds? Everyone keeps talking about how important it is to "always" cut away everything below 100 hz, 200 or even up to 500 hz on some elements to avoid clashing and unwanted resonating frequencies, but in my opinion it has gone a bit too far. The difference between music from back in the days and the music today is getting bigger each year it seems, and I definitely know which one I prefer. Any thoughts?
