Hey guys,
I've ran into some issues with a song I'm working on and want to ask for help.
I produce trap music and always have problems with the right structure, especially the drum parts are my problem zone.
I listen to a lot of reference tracks which have all different kinds of buildups, drum plays etc but whenever I try to transfer those ideas into my songs, they aren't working.
I usually start the first 8 bars without a beat or maybe a simple snap on every 2 and 4 . The next 8 bars usually go with a drum rhythm, but I'm not sure whether I should use a simple kick+snare pattern or just do a clap buildup like you find it in many songs.
I've found several ways to approach this but I'm not quite happy with either of them.
After those 16 bars, there usually comes a breakdown and this is my biggest problem. I don't know what drums I should use. Whatever drum combination I use, they all sound so mixed together that it doesn't feel groovy enough.
When I used a beat or clap segment from bar 9-16, which then gets followed by a breakdown, the whole song looses so much energy.
I already listened to so many songs but I can't really find a real structure that would work with my song.
I also don't know whether I should transpose my intro melody into the breakdown/buildup or just use a completely different melody.
Whatever I do, the song feels chopped, like the intro and the breakdown part just don't fit together.
Also, when I listen to other tracks by producers, each segment of the song sounds so long with enough time to build up, but when I use the same arrangement, the whole thing sometimes sounds hasty and unorganized.
What can I do?
