I keep on hearing that you should focus solely on composition when you’re starting a project, and to not get bogged down with sound design or other production/mixing stuff.
But so much of the character of the song comes from the instrumentation/sound design. It seems so intertwined with raw composition of melodies/chords that it doesn’t make sense to try and separate these two things.
It does slow down workflow a bit, but I think it’s definitely worth the extra time if it means the song will come across as I envisioned it.
Does anyone else do it this way?
