When producing I go about it pretty obvious and straight forward, start with a rhythm or melody and continually build on it, the more I work on something though the less I’m inclined to let any beat ride for 8 or even sometimes 4 bars without introducing or taking elements away. I have trouble to committing to letting a ‘good’ beat just play for a bit. Any one else battle this?
