Hey guys,
lately I've been struggeling with the structure of a song I'm working on.
It's a hybrid trap/trap song with 155 bpm and it's supposed to be a banger.
Now the problem is that I seem to not find the right structure for it.
Usually, drops are often around 50 seconds, but I feel if I place mine at this timemark, the breakdown gets too short.
I love creating breakdowns, but whenever it gets too the length of the buildup section or the right time for the drop, I don't know what to do.
Should I make my drop after the typical 32 bars or can it also be at 49 bars? I usually would like to do it the "common" way, but I'm not sure if the song might get too hurried.
Because I often use heavy stuff like trombones, I really want to set my focus on the atmosphere.
I also struggle a lot with automations. I used to automate the volume for most things but read that it's better to just automate a filter to make it sound smoother. What is the common or better way to do it?
How do I get my songs to come to a point instead of just building up forever? I just listened to Surface by Aero Chord and it's still a fantastic song but the buildup until the drop comes is way too long imo.
I'm also a bit too careful when it comes to enabling melodies because I always feel that parts of my songs don't fit together.
What can I do in order to make my transitions more smooth and create a nice story-telling?
Thanks!
