Fully 2 out of 5 posts on this subreddit, (or more) are really people taking the opportunity to present videos about their performance, most of which are quite fine as the artistry level is high. But drum kit performances billed as lessons are not really that when there's not a breakdown of the performance as far as technique is concerned. The same is true of piano demonstrations that include no written part to go along with the performance.
Also,
Including the notated drum line or guitar tablature without comment does not suffice for the video to be billed as educational.
Music learning takes place when a skilled performer explains, in words, what they feel is important for the student to notice out of the wealth of performance methods that are displayed. Certainly, a beginner or even an advanced student will not have the ability to notice important parts of the technique if they are not told what to look for. Otherwise, the only part of music tutoring we'd all need to be concerned with is attending concerts, and then Voila! go home and practice what we just learned. Fairly Advanced players might be able to do that but then that begs the question of how the advanced player got to where they are. Someone else certainly took the time to explain the technique involved. 99.999% of the audience here needs some explanation about the instrumental process to gain anything from a performance if they are here to 'Learnmusic'.
That is not to say that musical performances do not have educational value, they do. But performances only, without commentary designed to educate the viewer about the technique displayed, are not the point of this subreddit. That's for other venues.
Flexing for the audience is not education.
P.S.
5/5 of the newest posts to this subreddit should really be on another venue as they are merely performances. Again, wonderful artistry is on display, but merely a concert, not a lesson.
