I own a bass guitar. I took lessons years ago, and I own the Rocksmith game on PC. I feel like learning to really play would be incredibly rewarding, but it seems I lack the drive to stick with it through the lengthy period of being trash. There are too many easy successes I could be having instead of the challenging success of learning music. I have a number of rewarding hobbies that are easier than playing an instrument, yet I'm sure they aren't as fulfilling I'm the long run.
Are there any particularly engaging ways of learning to play an instrument? To learn in such a way that I'd be accountable to more than just myself?
