Hey everyone,
All my life I've loved music but never picked up an instrument. I decided that now is the time to learn and I am seriously motivated to spending time daily to learning. But I've run into an issue of picking which instrument to start with. I love the electric guitar and piano. I was in a guitar center today ready to purchase a guitar and amp but got side tracked by looking and feeling the keys of the piano. I love the energy, loudness, and emotions a guitar can make. But at the same time, I love the elegance, softness, and combination of lower and higher keys the piano can make. I listen to a lot of alternative, psychedelic rock, and Jazz. I love most music that have guitar in it, but also find myself listening to my favorite songs played on piano.
As I said before, I want to seriously devote time to learning an instrument in the long run. My end goal with any instrument I pick would be to eventually play by ear (easier said than done), improvise music, and make my own music. I want to be able to learn and understand music theory as well.
With those end goals in mind, do you recommend learning the piano or electric guitar first?
