Hi, this is my first post ever (and this should give you an idea about how desperate I am lol)
I (F24) have been playing the piano on and off for about 12 years. I quit private lessons a year and a half ago because of medical school and since then haven't really practiced much.
Now I just miss playing. Like, a lot. That's why I want to try taking cello lessons.
I was going to simply contact my old piano teacher but then I've thought about cello. Twelve years ago I didn't get to choose - my dad did, plus we already owned a piano. I have always, always been fascinated by cello (Laura's Star, anyone?) and want to try it so bad, can't really explain why, I've never even touched a cello, but I did some reasearch. The sound gives me goosebumps, cello itself is a stunning object and it allows you to play in quartets/orchestras. I also like the physical aspect of it, since you have to actually create the sound with your hands and the bow. It doesn't seem very beginner friendly, but at least I can read sheet music and with cello you only have to deal with one melody.
I love piano. There are still a few (very difficult but so so beautiful) pieces on my bucket list. The point is: I know piano, piano is safe, I enjoy the mental challenge and the complexity of it, what you can do with that instrument it's just glorious. But I can't stop thinking about cello. I know I could do both (taking cello lessons and practice piano on my own) but with med school being my top priority, it seems unrealistic. I don't know what to do.
Starting cello at 24, with a teacher, practicing for let's say 1 hour a day... would it be a waste of time? Should I just go back to piano lessons?
