I'm having a surprisingly difficult time finding a true beginner's guide to making a basic song using Surge XT.
I found very detailed guides that describe how to produce a certain sound but they all appear to assume a certain base level of knowledge about what they're doing. In that video he is using some kind of composing software and doesn't appear to mention it. Also there is no clear indication of what he is pressing to make the sounds (I assume a midi keyboard or normal keyboard).
I will probably use incorrect vernacular. I'm happy to be corrected.

What software is used to compose the individual beats created in Surge XT?

How do you output or save a sound/track in Surge XT?

I am not able to play the keys fast enough, is there a way to do the musical equivalent of a tool assisted speed run? Where I can go back to a specific time and initiate a note where there was previously dead space.
