I'm stuck when trying to make music I want to make.
I like lounge/jazz style music. I want to write music using my Gayageum and Haegeum.
I have issues with both my instruments but the Haegeum most of my issues are that I don't have enough skill yet to move around the instrument scales nicely.
I don't have any musical people in my life to help and I get a case of extreme anxiety when I even think about going to an open jam. Also most jams here want normal instruments I've forced myself to go to one but nobody wanted to help much cause of my instruments and they didn't know how to play it. I couldn't ask a bunch of stupid questions either cause I just locked up.
I am horrible at analyzing music, I am very tone deaf, and honestly I hate listening to music so its hard for me to sit there and just listen and try to analyze. I like playing the music. I know that makes it hard to learn especially jazz cause it's a language. Trust me I'm trying to listen and analyze but it's a huge struggle and I barely pull through when I force myself to try. I don't need any lectures on "listen to more and analyze more music"
Gayageum Issues
Gayageum is tuned pentatonic, so when trying to play over chords on Jazz Songs (trying to learn Jazz using my instruments) I don't always have all the notes in the chord. So I don't know how to get around that.
I know I can write my own Jazz music in the pentatonic scale but I'd like to be able to play with some others. Could someone give me examples of how you would take a C,D,E,G,A and fit it over say a Cmaj7(b5) where my only matching notes are C and E. Do you just use those two and try to match a rhythm? I know I could also look to the 11th and 13th but what if neither of those match?
Another challenge Cm7(b5) I only have the C? Can I pull the D(9th) from the scale? Then at least I'd be up to two notes.
