I know the obvious choice is to learn an instrument, but that's going to take time and right now I have a beat stuck in my head that I don't think belongs to any song and I started coming up with random song lyrics to it. I have GarageBand on my mac, but I don't know how to use it aside from basic cutting and editing to existing songs that I use for dance.
I've always had this ability to feel or visualize sounds, but my parents always told me that I need to learn how to play an instrument before they let me take lessons or get me an instrument. I used to come up with beats and song lyrics, but with no outlet and my family constantly telling me to shut up, I ended up giving up sometime around middle school.
Lately I've been getting a lot of time off from work and I'm going through a lot of heartbreak, which somehow unlocked years of repressed creativity. I got drunk asf the other night and filled up multiple pages of a notebook with random lyrics and short poems and I'm still coming up with ideas. I already have a dance project that I'm working on, but I think it's time I explore these newfound feelings.
What do I do now? I know basic music theory from years of dance and reading hymnbooks when I was bored in church, I have a guitar that I don't know how to play, and this weird ability to visualize sounds in the form of physical movements.
