TL;DR: should I just tough it out and practice by learning more songs, or take a more targeted approach with books/lessons specifically about reading sheet music?
So some background about me, I've been playing guitar for roughly 18ish years, and have technically known how to read music for almost just as long, but my sight reading has always been trash. I do a lot of transcribing, so I can count rhythms fairly well, and know my music theory basics, so I'm not necessarily looking for theory books (but it helps, I'm obviously not opposed), but looking for a way to better the specific skill of sight reading.
Recently, I've been working towards a life long dream of mine to be able to play jazz after being intimidated by it for so long, and got a Real Book and have been trying to read those songs, but obviously the skill level between songs is wide and not really meant for that. So I've been wondering, do I just still keep plucking away at those songs and eventually I'll "get it," or have there been any methods/books you found to have helped immensely with your sight reading? Preferably focused on guitar and the unique challenges of reading for it.
I'm open to online courses, apps, books, youtube, in-person lessons, etc, and don't mind paying, just wondering what worked for others. For a little background of what learning styles have worked for me in the past, for the last couple of months, I've been doing Jens Larson's jazz guitar roadmap course, and have absolutely been enjoying it and his direct, focused style of teaching where he introduces morsel sized concepts and great exercises based around that that feel like manageable goals but also push you forward. I also like how he doesn't waste your time with long winded videos, so no tubers with 15+ min videos that take forever to get to the point, I don't have much time to practice, so I try to make the most of that time as much as possible. Thanks!
