Okay so my piano history is a bit messy: I did one year at a piano school when I was 11 (no solfege but I was learning songs such as La Valse D’Amelie with piano sheets and my teacher taught me a bit about chords, keys, improv etc. and I finished 2 method books), then I stopped until I turned 15. I learned chords to accompany my singing, I started watching tutorials and since then (I’m almost 18) my piano technique/playing skills have largely exceeded my sight reading skills: I can play most chords instantly if you name/write them with letters and I learn pretty fast with tutorials such as synthesia or pianjohn. But now I would like to do the « real thing », feel legitimate like a conservatory student and be able to join a band and play immediately the songs not only with the name of the chords but with real piano sheets and improvise... I want to improve my sight reading skills and learn solfege to stop « cheating », to be able to play a song by reading the notes and not copying, as well as to train my ear and learn by heart all the scales and arpeggios. I considered starting from scratch with Alfred’s Basic Adult Piano books but it seems like I would be very bored since I play intermediate pieces (Satie’s Gymnopedie No. 1, Just the two of us, Martha My dear, FMAB’s opening...), I know the basics of music theory and I can sight read a bit. Where can I find the materials adapted to my particular situation to help me achieve these goals ? What routine should I have?
