I want to learn playing the piano and I gathered a lot of insights what makes sense to know and where to find it (music theory, online piano lessons, youtube tutorials about DAWs, etc.) on this and other subs over in the last days. I have no musical background besides some basic, mediocre knowledge from high school.
I terms of playing I just want to be able to play basic stuff, not classical masterpieces (Just talking about the ambition, I know that it will take a lot practice and time anyways). And for making music I want make some eletronic/hiphop music using something like ableton live. Probably going to start with garageband since its free.
I think that a MIDI Controller/Keyboard makes most sense for my ambition.
Right now my favorite is the NI Komplete Kontrol A61 (semi-weighted keys) – my Budget is around 250 EUR.
Does that make sense? What else would you throw in the mix?
My setup will be an iMac and the controller on my desk, I want to be able to put it away from time to time.
- I've read 61 keys makes senses for learning the piano and a full set of 88 keys is not necessarily needed? Or is 49 still acceptable? (I'm totally intrigued by the smaller, more minimalistic ones :D)
- Since I have no clue whatsoever, I don't know whether all the added knobs & buttons besides the keys are important for me or not? I guess most of the stuff can be done in the DAW anyway, but I guess some things might come in handy – what makes sense for a beginner to have (or not)?
- Do I need anything else to get started?
Sorry for the long post.
TL;DR: What midi keyboard makes sense to make music digitally as well as learn the piano at the same time?
