My question sounds oddly specific, but I can assure you there is rhyme and reason! I’m learning to play piano and I feel that learning to sight read over learning to play specific pieces would be more beneficial in the long run, and ironically interests me more. However, when learning to sight read I faced a problem: how do I know what I’m playing is right? Normally, if your playing a song it just won’t sound right, but if your sight reading a piece you never heard before how could you know! Unless... you could know what a piece sounds like via reading the sheet music! So what would be the best way of practicing this?
