Hello musicians of Reddit,
I (35M) have always regretted not learning music as a kid. I'm making lots of positive changes this year, and I've decided to make one of them learning an instrument. At the moment I have no musical background aside from a bit of guitar 23 years ago.
I've always loved the violin and violin music. Here's my problem; I live in a remote northern community and don't have access to a teacher (nearest instructors are 5 hours away). I can get a beginner's violin online or through a store here and try to teach myself through books, DVDs, and online tutorials, but I'm a bit hesitant. Would people recommend this, or should I instead start with something like the piano where I have easier access to instructors?
Thanks for your help and advice!
