Not sure where to post this, but this is the most relevant sub I could find. I want to start composing music digitally (midi), but all I found online was stuff about DAWs and such. Well I tried installing a free one (Pro Tools First) but all I was left with was confusion. Further research indicated that it's standard to have some kind of midi controller.
My question is then, is there some program I can use that's mouse only where I can just drag and drop, and manually edit the individual notes? I don't have a midi controller nor do I see the benefit of having one (what's the difference between that and just recording yourself playing the piano? I would much rather be able to specify precisely when and when not a note is played on the midi format. The entire allure of digital composition is to NOT need to manually play anything right?). It is also not in the realm of possibility for me to get a midi controller (except maybe some software that transforms keyboard input). I've been trying to find people talking about such software but I must be using the wrong keywords because Google is not helping at all. What kind of software am I thinking of? If anyone knows what I'm talking about and has any recommendations I'm all ears.
